Nicholas' Half Birthday 2013

If you've been around the blog for awhile then you probably know I'm big on traditions.  I doing the same things year to year to help celebrate and mark special occasions.  Well, I came upon an accidental tradition that I apparently started last year (without really meaning to).

You see, Ella's first grade teacher had a summer birthday, but she was an incredibly great teacher and a really sweet person so we wanted to celebrate her special day.  Another mom and I decided that we should celebrate her half birthday so we could celebrate during the school year (in February).

As it turns out, Nicholas' half birthday is just days away from Ella's former teacher and he put two and two together and decided he wanted to celebrate his half birthday too.  A tradition was born.  I didn't really think it was a big deal.  I thought we'd do it one year and no one would ever think of it again.  WRONG!

Nine Point Five

Last week Nicholas started mentioning his half birthday and then on Sunday Ella reminded me his half birthday was on Tuesday and "You had better be planning something."  #$%^, I thought to myself, I have so much going on this week.  I don't have time for half birthdays.

But then I got to thinking about it and I realized that my kids are only little once and if this makes them happy then I'll certainly go through the "trouble" of making a half birthday celebration.  I was sure to tell Nicholas this morning that this was not going to turn into something elaborate.   I told him I would bake him something and he could chose dinner.   He chose brownies and pizza.   That I could handle.

After all, your boy only turns 9 and a half once.

And who doesn't have time for that?
